UPHOLDING THE RULE OF LAW AND CONSTITUTION
As an attorney, I swore an oath to uphold the Washington State Constitution and the United States Constitution. As a non-partisan role, City Council requires that all members uphold the rule of law to ensure fairness and impartiality. It is more important now than ever in the history of the United States to uphold the rule of law and to encourage voter participation in local elections. On May 1, 2025, I retook my attorney oath in Olympia in front of the Washington State Supreme Court along with over 1300 Washington attorneys from around the State. I take my oath very seriously. In retaking my oath recently, I was most moved by affirming two particular oaths. First, "I will support the constitution of the State of Washington and the constitution of the United States." Second, "I will never reject, from any consideration personal to myself, the cause of the defenseless or oppressed, or delay unjustly the cause of any person." These are not only foundational rules for attorneys, but also basic principles that should be expected of any elected official.
